Some of the greatest lessons I've learned in the music business came simply from being in the room and listening.
That's what I want to give you this fall:
I'll be joined by extraordinary songwriting and music industry guests for honest conversations about Career • Craft • Creative Hydration and what they've learned along the way.
These aren't rehearsed presentations. They're the kinds of conversations I've been fortunate to have throughout my career as a publisher, songwriter manager, A&R professional, and mentor.
And I'm inviting you into the room.
September 8–11 • 5–6 PM Central • LIVE on Zoom
4 Evenings • Replays Available for 10 Days
Early Registration: $49 through August 27
Regular Registration: $69
Career • Craft • Creative Hydration
During our four evenings together, we'll explore three areas that I believe matter throughout a songwriter's journey.
Understand the music business and the people who make it happen, so you can make informed decisions about your creative future. Learn where the professional bar is set, how the business works, and gain perspective on what you want from songwriting.
Keep developing your voice and your songs. Learn what makes great songs work while building the confidence to write what is uniquely yours.
Creativity isn't just about pouring out. It's also about pouring back in.
We'll talk about replenishing the creative well so you can stay connected to yourself, your creativity, and the reason you love writing songs. "Don't let anything steal your joy for music." - Allen Shamblin
Do you feel the shift towards more meaning? At this point in my career, I'm less interested in small talk and more interested in the real conversations. I wanna know...
What did you risk to do this?
How hard was it to stay true to yourself?
When did you go from trying to prove you were a real songwriter to just being a songwriter?
What does success look like now?
Creatives, by our very nature, want to go deeper.
And that's why I'm thrilled to reveal the first 2 guests joining me for The Whole Songwriter...
Award-Winning Songwriter • Producer
Artist • Entrepreneur • Mom
When I was working at ASCAP, I fell in love with Nicolle's writing and I started connecting her with my favorite co-writers. The funny part? Nicolle was a BMI writer!
But I desperately wanted to work with her, so I started introducing her to writers I was excited about, including Jimmy Robbins and RaeLynn.
And thank goodness she trusted me!
I had the privilege of watching Nicolle's career begin to take off through those relationships and so many that followed!
Today, Nicolle is an award-winning songwriter behind hits like Miranda Lambert's “Automatic” (gosh I LOVE this song so much!!!!) and Dan + Shay's “Tequila.”
But that's not the only reason I invited her.
Nicolle is a trailblazer.
She's built businesses. Started her own record label and publishing company called "Songs and Daughters." Made and released her own album in 2022 called "Firstborn." All while making decisions to put her family first and prove that a successful creative life doesn't have to look the way everyone tells you it should.
Career. Craft. Creative Hydration.
Nicolle has something meaningful to say about all three.
There's a theme here folks. We're not talking about metrics and socials and how to get a radio single. Those are fine conversations for another day.
I want to have the deeper, raw conversation that grounds us into who we are and what we have to say.
And I want to bring you in to the conversation.
Legendary Music Exec • Hit Songwriter
Producer • Oklahoma Hall of Fame
Please meet legendary music executive, songwriter and producer Tim DuBois.
I can't begin to tell you what a treat it is to bring Tim into the room.
As President of Arista Nashville, Tim signed Alan Jackson to his first record deal. He identified and worked with artists including Pam Tillis, Diamond Rio and Brad Paisley.
And he has STORIES.
Tim once told me about Alan Jackson walking into a meeting carrying a Kroger bag full of cassette tapes. Alan's first AND second albums were sitting in that Kroger bag!
But here's what I really want you to know about Tim DuBois.
He's an extraordinary leader.
Tim is the person who hired me to come to ASCAP in 2010. I'd never actually met him before our first meeting, but I had friends who'd worked for him at Arista, and the way they talked about this man made me want the chance to meet him.
When I got the call that Tim wanted to sit down with me, wild horses couldn't have kept me away.
It turned into one of the best meetings of my life. We just "got" each other, and Tim asked me to join him at ASCAP and co-head the Creative department.
Tim doesn't just create great teams, he creates a family atmophere that lasts a lifetime for those lucky enough to learn from his leadership.
And that's one of the reasons I wanted Tim to be part of The Whole Songwriter.
Imagine what we can learn from someone who's spent a lifetime identifying talent, developing artists and songwriters, writing hit songs, producing records, building companies and leading people.
This is our CAREER pillar coming to life.
Legendary Music Publisher • Sr VP of Creative BMG Music Publishing
How would you like to do a LIVE Q&A with Chris and me? That's right ... UNMUTE AND DIRECTLY ASK YOUR PUBLISHING QUESTION? Well that's what I'm offering the last night of this virtual masterclass.
I can't summarize Chris' background because there have been so many high notes! When a guy signs Craig Wiseman before he becomes CRAIG WISEMAN ... when he leads a young star and her team through the maze that is Nashville and that star becomes one of the icons of country music (Carrie Underwood) ... and signs Stephen Wilson Jr on the spot .... what else do you need to know?
Just imagine all the hit songs in between my personal favorite high notes of Chris' career.
Chris Oglesby loves songwriters!
When I started as a receptionist in a the Windswept Pacific Publishing office, and slowly worked my way up to start understanding songwriters and working with them ... it was Chris who was taking his time after hours to meet with developing songwriters and building community with them.
Chris and a guy named Scott Gunter made the music business so fun. They included the the unsigned folks and made sure that people working in publishing knew who was coming up through the ranks. Gosh, that's where I first met Luke Laird ... an MTSU student back then ... and Matt Ramsey, the lead singer for Old Dominion, who was working some kind of job but showing up for these after hours hangs.
Even if you're new to this, come observe the masterclass that will be these 4 days.
I talk about this a lot but truly, being around the conversations in the real music business IS the education. It is also the INSPIRATION!
So yes, if you want to be a part of a LIVE Q&A with Chris and me, jump in before the doors close (see countdown timer!!! SO EXCITED!!!!)
Maybe you want a publishing deal.
Maybe you want stronger co-writers, want to get your songs heard.
Maybe you've returned to songwriting after years of "doing life" and you're ready to see where it could take you.
Or maybe you know there's more in you creatively and you're ready to find out what that is.
All of those dreams are welcome in the workshop.
LP Creative Therapy doesn't define success for songwriters.
It helps songwriters define success for themselves.
You bring the dream.
I'll bring honest music business insight, extraordinary guests, creative encouragement, and a community that understands why songwriting matters to you.
For more than 25 years, I've had the privilege of working alongside songwriters as a music publisher, songwriter manager, A&R professional, mentor, and Creative Wellness Coach. My passion isn't telling people what success should look like. It's helping each songwriter understand the music business, discover their own path, and continue growing into the songwriter they're meant to become.
I've spent much of my career working alongside extraordinary songwriters, publishers, producers, artists, and music industry leaders.
For four nights, I'm opening up that access to you. There are great people in this industry and I'd like to introduce you to some of my favorites.
